The bed arrives unassembled, pieces nested compactly in a cardboard box with pretty decent shipping protection (You'll need a Phillips Head Screwdriver to put it together) - not too heavy to move around when assembled. Made from a wood called Tulip Poplar, it's unstained/finished (though using the bed without additional painting is perfectly fine). The wood is a light tone with visible knots and blemishes, which looks clean and natural in my opinion. The bed stand holds your bed about a foot off the ground, sturdy and not-creaky, keeping mattress cool and free from any nighttime creepy crawlies.
